Female WWII Veteran is Still Fighting by Shelby Linker, 8th period

Elaine Harmon was a female pilot who fought during WWII and was a member of WASP, Women Airforce Service Pilots. She passed away during April of 2015 at the age of 95. Harmon's daughter is currently trying to allow Elaine Harmons' final resting place be in Arlington Cemetery, which would also fulfill Harmon's final wish. Unfortunately, there seems to be formalities that are necessary if Harmon is to be buried with her fellow veterans. The problem lies within in Congress and the Pentagon, who seem to be struggling trying to pass the legislation that would allow the surviving WASPs to be able to request being buried int he national cemetery.

I don't understand how this is debatable, the cemetery is for war veterans and these brave women went against society's idea of a woman's role to fight for their country. There is no debate, they are veterans, regardless of their gender. This brings to life the whole history of feminism vs. sexism. "The only reason that the WASPs were considered not active duty at the time... was because we had these cultural biases about what women can and cannot or should and should not do," said representative Martha McSally. Hopefully our government will do the right thing and allow these brave women to be buried beside their fellow veterans.

This outrageous and I don't see why she cannot be buried there.

  2. This is ridiculous, she is a veteran and should get the honor of being buried with all the other veterans.

  3. Military officials are all equal in the work they do protecting our country, not defined by the basis of gender.
