Cure for HIV Just Years Away-Nicholas Watson, 9th

Summary:
A cure for HIV and AIDS could supposedly be just a few years coming after scientists have reportedly been able to cut away the virus from infected cells and preventing it from returning. Scientists at Temple University are confident that they will be able to start human trials within the next year years. Experts believe that the treatment would basically allow the body to cure itself from the inside. This new technique is called Crispr/Cas9, which involves targeting the genetic code of HIV which goes into cells. Scientists then take the Cas9 protein and edit it so it can recognize viral code. Those that are infected will have to take an anti-retroviral drug for the rest of their lives, and if stopped, could increase the risk of the virus coming back.

Analysis:
As new news stories and discoveries come out, it pushes me to believe that the Health industry will be the one that sees the most growth and technological advances. This story brings so much hope that one of the most deadliest viruses America has, could be stopped and prevent more people from dying. Who knows maybe the next big cure would be for illnesses like Cancer or other health dedtremental diseases. I cant help but think how much better America would be when people are given a cure for what many thought couldn't be cured for a long time. I'm so happy that people with the virus will soon be brought hope that, with the disease, they finally have a chance of living.

  2. It's amazing that a few months ago we took a biology class that told us this was not possible, and now it is.
