More Americans Identifying as Democrats--Becca Brandt 4th Period

In recent polls, many Americans have been identifying as Democrats, or leaning towards the Democratic party, over the Republican Party. In a recent survey, 46 percent of Americans identified as being Democratic, compared to 40 percent identifying as Republican. Last year, from August to October, they were both even at 42 percent. Gallup, the company recording these results, says that Democrats' edge gives them strong positioning heading towards this fall's election. Republicans tend to vote more than Democrats, so these reassuring statistics might give the Democrats a bit of a cushion. The Gallup poll results tend to have a margin of error of 1 percent.

Seeing these results, it is hard to say which way this election will go. I definitely think that for this election, the Democratic candidates have been more favorable in terms of character, or political ideas, maybe both. It is hard to please the people of America, but they must be doing something right. This just proves that people do base their party preference off the candidates. Back in the early 1900s, and 1800s, people would stick to the party that they belong to, no matter who the candidates were. It was not until big things like the Great Depression, and various wars, that people started basing their vote on the capability of the candidate.

  1. This is super intriguing... I was raised in a Republican house, so that's what I'd always though was right until this year as I really started thinking about politics and actually analyzing the opinions from both sides, and this presidential election has definitely made me more in favor of the democratic party

  2. Very informed analysis, I think the next generation will have a grand time reading about this year's presidential election in a textbook.
