During the New York Inner Circle dinner in New York, Hillary Clinton and Bill de Blasio, the New York mayor, had a little exchange that was obviously rehearsed and was a bit racially charged. After finally endorsing Clinton, she joked, "took you long enough." In his response, he said, "Sorry, Hillary. I was running on CP time." The CP stands for Colored People and the joke referenced a stereotype of habitual lateness.
Some don't mind the joke, but many found it incredibly tasteless. As someone who is not African American, I'm really in no place to call for wether or not it was offensive, but I will say it was beyond unnecessary. Not only was it just not funny, we just don't need racially charged jokes at political dinners. Especially for Hillary, who should be working hard to gain minority groups on her side, it was a joke that didn't seem to be worth the risk. Minority groups have been on a steady rise, and since they could vote, due to the 15th Amendment, they remain a powerful force to be reckoned with.
