Claudia Anthony "Muslim family seeks apology after being forced off United flight"

A Muslim family is asking for a formal apology from United Airlines after they were removed from a flight at the Chicago O'Hare International Airport last month. The parents and their three children were flying out for their Spring Break trip, and were told to carry on their child's booster seat, instead of checking it, because the airport's computer system was down. The flight attendant on the plane told the family they could not use the booster seat, checked their tickets, and told them they needed to leave the flight. The parents asked the flight staff why they needed to leave, and the pilot said, "Because it's my decision." They staff also said it was a "a safety of flight issue." The mother said that she felt discriminated against, and that she "felt singled-out, humiliated and helpless."

I think it's awful that the flight crew asked this family to leave, without giving an actual reasons or explanation for making them leave. They mishandled the situation, and without giving the family a sound reason, it did seem as though it was a discriminatory request. American's began singling out Muslims after the 9/11 attack in New York City, which  is very offensive. Islam is a peaceful religion, but radical Muslims have given people a false perception of the actual ideology of the religion.

  1. This is awful. I can only hope that the pilot of that flight will realize how dehumanizing his actions were.
