Bad news for bullets this week: Researchers at North Carolina State University have developed a super strong armor material that literally turns bullets to dust upon impact. In a rather dramatic video recently posted online, an armor-piercing bullet is shown essentially disintegrating as it impacts the armor. “We could stop the bullet at a total thickness of less than an inch, while the indentation on the back was less than 8 millimeters,” Rabies writes in press materials issued with the video.
This is some seriously intense and cool news. It could revolutionize all military and police forces (is that a good thing?) making them virtually indestructible to bullets and many types of radiation. I bet police officers back in the day who's bullet vests were made of mettle and standard foam would have liked to use this. Especially during riots and protests.
This is very cool! I wonder how expensive the vest is though?
ReplyDeleteKinda cool, but also scary. How will indestructible soldiers change warfare?
