Why are refugees being turned away from Gulf States? by Mattie Whisler 9th period Flex

States on the Persian Gulf like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, and the UAE are turning Syrian refugees away. They defend themselves by saying that they have given money to the United Nations to help the refugees. The UN has asked that every developed nation should open their borders and take in the refugees. It is more practical for Gulf States to take in refugees because they are alike, they both speak Arabic. The poorer countries like Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq are taking in millions of refugees. In the Gulf states the concept of refugees isn't a thing.

I think that they fact that the poorer countries are taking in more refugees says a lot about them. Especially Iraq because violence is still a major issue there but they continue to help those in need. Giving money is helpful but providing shelter is really important especially since the United Nations can only do so much.

  1. I think the gulf states should realize how important it is for these refugees to get shelter. Some other countries have already taken in too many refugees for their country to support. -Claudia Anthony
