Taytum Buford- 6th Period-15 Year-Old Shot and Killed by a 14 Year-Old Freshman

Summary: On September 7, 2015 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a 15 year-old boy, Aaron Richardson, was shot a killed. The police did not believe this shooting was just a random act, but rather a target. After Aaron was shot in Redmond Park, he ran to the nearest house for help. The man at the house called for help and an ambulance came. Unfortunately later that evening, Aaron died after surgery.
The police now have reason to believe a 14 year-old, Robert Humbles, was the murderer in this investigation as he was brought to the police on Thursday night to the station by a family member. Sources have confirmed that he has been arrested for first degree murder of Aaron Richardson. If tried as an adult, Humbles will be in prison his whole life.
Analysis:
Obviously, this is an awful and tragic thing that took place a week ago. This relates back to 2006 in Iowa, when a man shot his mom, dad, and three teenage sisters in a mass murder to inherit the family fortune. Luckily, the young, Shawn Bentler, was sentenced to five life sentences that same day.
These two murders are the same because of the choice of weapon, but then drastically different. For Butler, the police knew what the motive was, family fortune. However, for Humbles, it was a different story as the police continue to investigate why on earth he would shoot Aaron Richardson.
I find these two compelling stories to be undeniably tragic, heartbreaking, and eyeopening. These 6 victims did not understand why their lives were being taken, which gives me the chills. I hope they can find the motive behind Humbles murder so we can prevent things like this from happening.

  2. I am actually really curious as to why Robert killed Aaron? What could've happened between them that made Robert angry enough to kill another boy?

  3. This is horrible. I can't even imagine a 14 year old boy being charged with first degree murder. I feel very bad for the family of Aaron and hope that this might at least put a pause on gang/gun violence. Whatever will keep guns out of the hands of innocent adolescents.

This sounds terrible! I cannot believe what would cause a 14 year old boy to feel compelled to kill another young boy, and was it compelling enough for his whole life in prison? He's just a kid, why would he do something like this and risk his whole life. It's such a shame. I'm awaiting news on his motives.
