On Thursday, September 17, 2015, a family of five was found dead in their home in Greenwood, Minnesota. After the three children were counted absent at school for three days, a co-worker of Brian Short (the father) went to his house to make sure everything was okay. Police refuse to release the details of the conditions of the bodies of the family members, but an officer reports that each family member was found in a different room and that it is "an unspeakable tragedy". Police are still trying to uncover the reason behind this obvious murder-suicide, but say that the public isn't in any danger. This article was written by Michael Pearson, a former newsman and reporter, but now a part time writer for CNN. The article was released on Friday, September 18, 2015, and because this article was written so soon after the catastrophe, it could affect the amount of detail released to the public regarding the motives of the murders. The article was written to inform the public of the deaths of the family and to increase awareness of the fact that the police could be looking for a murderer. The reason this article is important is because it notifies locals that there could potentially be a criminal in the area. This is relevant to our everyday lives because it reminds us that events like these aren't always just on fictional crime shows, but horrible things happen to innocent people everyday.

This is sickening and scary that someone would choose to come in and destroy a family and kill them. This means that people have to be safer and better with who you trust.
ReplyDeleteIt is so scary to realize this could happen to anyone. People nowadays are doing crazier and more absurd things. -Julianne Swaykus 6
