Reece Clark, 6th Period

In the light of the upcoming presidential debates, a story was shared by a man named Aristedes Parada, born and raised in Guatemala. Around 1979, a civil war was brewing in his country, that left most residents with a difficult choice: To join the ranks, or flee to avoid getting caught in the cross fire. It's likely to say that for Parada, his safest bet was the flee north, to the United States, the "land of opportunity." He entered illegally into Texas, worked hard, paid his dues, and eventually got married to another illegal immigrant and had two children, both U.S. citizens. Aristedes was and is a genuine contributor to society, and came to America in hopes of a safe haven, free from the war zone that was his home country. Under President Reagan's term, he was even granted amnesty for coming illegally. Currently, Donald Trump is attempting to strip this possibility of a safe future from other future immigrants, all the while quoting Ronald Reagan himself, along with the other Republicans, with no regard to Reagan's viewpoint on immigration.

This article goes to show how concerning it is for the possible future of America to be run by someone such as Trump, who clearly either is not educated, or chooses his truths carefully when he is in the spotlight. It is a moral injustice to take away opportunities from families just trying to escape danger or start a new life, in the interest of "American jobs."

  1. I truly agree: knowing that one third of America's power in government (besides "we the people" of course) is going to a man who either hasn't considered the lives of thousands, millions of hardworking and deserving people or refuses to say so is frightening. These upcoming elections have me in a bit of a tizzie as of what will happen because as a generation soon-to-be running our nation, we must be sure to reinforce our opinion and make positive choices that will utterly determine how our country is run!

  2. He does cherry pick, but he has such a presence and a such way to cover up his mistakes or the things he says, that people follow him. Don't even get started on his way of deporting immigrants. It's ludicrous.

  3. Luckily, our judicial system is set up to where the POTUS is not the only one who is allowed to factor in on these decisions. The laws he proposes that so clearly go against everything America appears to stand for, hopefully would not pass if he does somehow, someway become our president.
