Reece Clark, 6th Period

Currently in the race for the 2016 presidential elections, republican Donald Trump has been taking the hearts of many. The billionaire businessman, while unpopular with many, has also been speaking to the problems many American's have on their mind, but are too shy to address. His boldness has seated him in a position of power in this election, and has even intimidated other candidates in the running. Other republican candidates have been hesitant to criticize Trump's ideals, due to have much he's captivated the republican voters. Jeb Bush has attempted to take shots at him, but has primarily been unsuccessful. Although the democrats still have hope for themselves, Trump is getting closer and closer to the finish line.

I think some of the things Trump has had to say are absolutely astounding. Although it is completely and totally fair for us to exercise our freedom of speech, the fact that Trump has taken it the extra mile ACROSS the line of what might be considered, "socially acceptable" by many, and is getting support for it, amazes me. Personally, it concerns me that he could very well be our next president, but at the same time, I do have a least an ounce of respect for him for having the raw courage to say the things half of America is thinking, and I suppose it is doing him well.

  1. He does have courage, but he's so full of himself that he seems way too selfish too qualify as a good president.

  2. While he is honest, to me, most of his comments come off as arrogant and ignorant, not brave.

  3. It bothers me that Trump claims that he is a good candidate because he doesn't adhere to political correctness, when in reality his "politically incorrect" or "socially unacceptable" comments are just racist, sexist, and bigoted.

  4. I agree with Kate. He is a very blunt and honest person but this can get confused with arrogance and ignorance.

  5. I am also very worried that he could be our next president. I don't really think what he says is brave because he doesn't really face any repercussions for saying them. -Brooks Norton

  6. The things he says especially about women are outstanding, in a society where everyone is becoming more and more equal, electing Trump would set us back years.

  7. I agree with Rachel, his comments are downright insulting, no need to specify on those since you'd be quoting almost everything that comes out of his mouth. You could call him courageous, but it really depends on how you define "courage". To me, he might be ignorant, loud, blunt, even honest, but hardly brave. When things don't go as expected, count on Trump to react indecently like dismissing Latino reporter Jorge Ramos from asking how he intended to deport all 11 million people in the country illegally by having security on him... For asking a question. (which Trump had no backing for, like most claims he makes!) I'd call that cowardice. I wouldn't call "saying what everyone else is afraid to say" bravery either, in his case that just means that everyone else has maturity and moral filters.

  8. Recently, Trump was also caught cheating at golf. If we can't trust him to play an honest game of golf, how can he lead our country?

  9. This is absolutely insane. I cant believe he would even say things like deporting 11 million people. I agree with Andrew! How is expected to be a good president when he can't even play a round of golf without cheating?

  10. I don't think Trump presidential material. We are all equal and we should all be treated equally. No matter the shape, color or personality. Desiree Smith period 4

  11. Very nice choice for a current event. Nothing more current than the presidential election. Politics can get very dicey, so I that you honest but still sensitive when writing this. As we age, I think this is something we should all keep up with. I don't know much about Donald Trump, but after reading your current event, I don't think he's president material.

  12. I appreciate and respect Trump's honesty... to a certain extent. Like you said he does cross the line of "socially acceptable" speech. Though he is very honest and has some good ideas most of us are afraid to mention, I believe he is too arrogant and really just caught up in the media appearances, he wouldn't make that good of a president.

  14. Bernadette Negrete: think Donald trump is just a full frontal person and believes what hes saying is normal but to us is shocking.I understand why candidates are intimidated. They believe he has the upper hand because he is very loud about his opinions and very well outgoing. i don't believe his ideas are intimidated them but how he presents them with so much confidence.

  15. Although some of the things that he has to say are valid, I don't think that he needs to be running our country.

He is so blunt and straight forward and for many it's hard not to take the things he says personally. I think honesty is an important personal characteristic but there is a very thin line between being honest and just plain offensive.

  17. I agree with Katie, he seems very "honest", however he can be so incredibly offensive and I don't think he even knows that. Imagine the things he would say when running a whole country.
