The article that I read this week
discusses the Pope’s upcoming visit to the United States. With Pope Francis
coming to the US, the beginning of the United Nations General Assembly, and the
presence of President Obama all taking place in New York this week, the New
York Police Department has a large task for preparing security. According to
New York Police Commissioner William Bratton, there have been no specific
threats toward any of these events yet, however the team protecting the Pope
and the rest of the events is sure to keep security a top priority. As Pope
Francis is known for being especially interactive with the crowds he visits,
William Bratton says that the NYPD is prepared for the unique challenge of
keeping him safe this upcoming week.
Analysis- I find this article to be interesting as many major events are going to take place this week in the United States. I can see how security would be of great importance and how a large team is needed to work together for it all to happen. I can relate this article back in US history to the American Revolution and the importance of leaders. It makes me wonder how people of such influence like George Washington or Samuel Adams were treated and protected by others in order to maintain the goals of what they were fighting for. (Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty, and George Washington with the American army). It also makes me curious as to how our history would have changed without the leaders of these movements and their protection being of concern. I will be interested to see what happens this week with all of these events happening in New York.

I enjoy hearing news regarding Pope Francis, he's an interesting person. I think it's awesome that the article you wrote about refers to the security of the famous figures, instead of the figures themselves. It's rare that they are given the lime light they deserve. - Brenna Hale(6th Period)
