Obama Gives Republicans a Reality Check - Emily Rosuck - 4th

President Barack Obama recently put out a video talking about how progressive America is, like how it's been able to pick itself up after the Great Depression 7 years ago and now our economy is thriving. He proceeds to say how congress needs to be more focused on legitimate problems, but defunding Planned Parenthood is not one of them. He says a government shut down of a federal organization is "unAmerican, and unpatriotic." He's very right.

Defunding Planned Parenthood is a bad idea all across the board, not only does it deny women the rights to choose when and how they parent, but it deprives women of access to birth control, breast exams, and pap smears (tests for cervical cancer). They claim it's because of their safe, legal, abortion clinics, but in reality it's only 3% of what Planned Parenthood does. They not only give women the services stated above, but they also give men, women and children counseling, adoption plans, contraceptives, STI (sexually transmitted infection) tests, comprehensive sex education (which is what I do for Planned Parenthood) and more. Recently there have been fake, edited videos about how Planned Parenthood harvests fetal tissue and sells it for profit. This is completely false, in 2 states (not including Texas) women can chose whether or not they would like to donate the fetal tissue for stem cell research to find cures for diseases such as Alzheimers and Parkinsons disease. The people that made the videos are not even a real company, they completely morphed the actual conversations and they even had a person talk about how she had to watch a living breathing baby get aborted and have it's brain harvested, not only is that a complete and utter lie, its medically inaccurate and impossible and she never even worked for Planned Parenthood. This is not the first time Republicans have attacked Planned Parenthood, for all the 100 years it's been around, it has constantly had adversaries and people who do whatever they can to shut it down, but it has survived, and it will stay. We have worked so hard to make this country thrive as it does, but shutting down PP would set back our civil rights about 200 years. There is one month before Congress decides whether or not to pass the bill to defund PP, but lets hope for the sake of the health care of our friends, family, and fellow Americans, that it doesn't pass. That would be an economic, social, and medical disaster.
