"The Mexican government on Monday condemned Egyptian forces for killing 12 people, including at least two Mexican tourists, and wounding at least 10 in an airstrike that hit a tourist convoy apparently mistaken for Islamic radicals in Egypt’s Western Desert."
A reporter from mexico, says that the tour group was just on their way to go get some dinner, at an oasis. The Egyptian air force threw an ariel strike at the tourist group without warning at all. An eyewitness described how army aircraft came and how they, "come out of nowhere and attacked the group."
Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said on his Twitter account: "Mexico condemns these acts against our citizens and has demanded that the Egyptian government conduct an exhaustive investigation of what happened."
The Mexican government said 14 of its citizens had taken part in the desert excursion and confirmed that two had been killed and six who were injured remained in the hospital.
Egypt’s Ministry of Interior said in a statement to the government security that they "accidentally" fired at four veichles that where supposedly in a restricted zone. But Rasha al-Ayazi, a spokesperson at Egypt’s Tourism Ministry, told Egypt’s state-owned Middle East News Agency that the convoy had not obtained proper security clearance to travel in the area and that the government would “punish” the tour organizers for allowing the convoy to enter a restricted area. “turned out to be a Mexican tourist convoy entering a restricted zone”
It said the convoy was licensed, that a police escort was with the tourist group and that the group had received no warnings from any security at the checkpoint they had passed through that the area was restricted to civilians.
Egypt has been struggling with their soldiers and militant groups converting to Islamic militants because of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi, "Hundreds of soldiers and police have been killed by militants who have pledged allegiance to the Islamic State and have started to attack Western targets in the country."
There has always been tensions going around in Egypt and this attack honestly doesn't faze me anymore, but what does faze me is the the Mexican President Peña Nieto is focusing and demanding evidence for two people who died.
He can't even contribute to solving the case for the 43 college kids missing or set more security for the cities and pueblos over run with drug cartel. And him trying to sell the land where most of the barrier reef habitat are, to the Chinese for a couple billion dollars when all that sea life is worth more than the oil under (if any).
But tensions in the middle East are really high and honestly at this point anything could trigger a war and America being founded on John Winthrops sermon, will probably participate.
