Summery
Social media platforms like Facebook, Google, Twitter, and Snapchat are expected to make big money of the 2016 presidential election. Borrell Associates estimate that 9.5% of political media budgets could go towards digital media, a total of 1 billion dollars.
Facebook allows campaigns the ability to reach a lot of the American public, 190 million people use the platform each month. Facebook also allows campaigns to use their features to design target ads based on issues they care about. Facebook is planning for this election and have roughly 10 people working to sell ads to national and statewide campaigns.
Google like Facebook has a team of 10-12 people working on selling advertising tools for the 2016 presidential election. Google is able to help with targeted advertisement, also Google's search ads are an open market subject to auction so anyone can win ad placement. Target ads are based on demographics like age, gender, location, and interest.
Twitter is a destination for campaigns  because many political operatives and reporters use the platform and its a why to engage in real time. They pitched political strategies at an event in Washington. Twitter is used through promoted tweets and promote hashtags it also allows people to track events in real time.
Snapchat is being used to target younger voters with 10 seconds video ads. The ads are to persuade young voters to align with a candidate. Another way candidates can advertise on Snapchat is with filters which snapchatters can add to their pic and videos.

I find this very interesting. I also find it odd that social media platforms make a profit off of politics. I believe that whoever is elected president shouldn't be picked based on how much money they have to pay for the ads, it should be based on their views.
