Madeline Jones 4th Period: Man Taken Into Custody For Phoenix Freeway Shooting

The man responsible for the Phoenix freeway shooting has been taken into custody for questioning. The Phoenix police detained the man outside of a convenient store. The convenient store is located about four miles from Interstate 10, where eleven shootings took place. The man detained remains anonymous to the public. This man was also wanted for many other crimes.
The fact that this man was able to access a gun and use it for unthinkable acts is unacceptable. In phoenix, you are not required to obtain a state permit to purchase a gun. However, you are required to obtain a conceal carry weapon (CCW) to carry a gun with you. It is illegal to discharge a firearm in Phoenix unless used for hunting in designated areas or self defense. This man did not fire his gun for any of those reasons.
Since 1990, debates over gun availability and gun violence in America have been growing. The gun control act of 1968 was passed after the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr., John F. Kennedy, and Malcolm X. The second amendment has given specific gun rights for Americans for over 200 years. Gun control has been a large debate in Politics and many activists groups. Gun control has caused many public uprisings over the years. I personally believe that gun control is important. Owning a gun for self defense is highly important for citizens in America today. However, there should be thorough background checks and tests being done before allowing an American citizen to legally purchase a firearm.

I agree, our world today is so dangerous but that doesn't give the excuse for everyone to own guns. There should be a very detailed process to obtaining guns to ensure the further safety of American citizens.

  2. I agree with Katie. I believe that if we should have the rights to own guns there should be a thorough background check before any person can obtain a gun. This well help the threat of gun violence in America.

I also agree with katie. Though it is a civil right to own a gun, there should be a pretty hardcore process to get to that point of owning a weapon.

  4. I agree that gun control should be more strict and is very important. A lot of people who fire guns for no reason might have deeper mental issues and it is good to know that before letting them have a gun. I don't really feel that safe knowing that there aren't background checks in all parts of the world
