Kennedy Park (4th period) Jen welter on coaching in the NFL

Jen Welter has become the first women known to ever coach in the NFL. She has made it clear that women can do anything. What started out as playing in the Women's Football Alliance led to a master's degree in sports psychology and a doctorate in psychology. Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians states that "The minute they can prove that they can make a player better they'll be hired." This is an important moment for women. Welter said in an interview that "...we as women, especially in sports, have been very limited in what we can dream. And now it's possible."

Jen Welter has crossed a new threshold for women. The article states that it has been difficult for women to get jobs covering NFL and other sports in the past, now it would seem that women can do anything. Nearly 100 years after women have gained the right to vote and everyone has become "equal" women are still fighting to break down walls and show that they can do anything they can dream of. In the book "The Wordy Shipmates" by Sarah Vowell it clearly goes to show that women were simply supposed to be in the house cooking and taking care of children. Looking back we have broken down many barriers, a female NFL sports coach being just one.
