This influx of migrants parallels the mass migration of Syrians to Austria after the communist party rose to power in 1956. Austria had a more open policy towards asylum seekers, than many countries today. I think each country should take as many immigrants as they can. Yes, countries will be inconvenienced, but at some point you have to ignore the politics and help these refugees because it's the right thing to do. These are people with families and children, not numbers. Anyone could be in that kind of situation and I think the lack of empathy we have for other people is ridiculous.

Germany Near Tipping Point With Immigrants - Kate Fehan 8th Period
Germany and Austria have received the vast majority of immigrants in Europe's migrant crisis, and both countries have warned that they can't keep up with the huge number of people. Over 16,000 have come to Austria since Saturday, and in Munich, Germany alone, they've gotten over 17,000. They need other countries to step up and help, but not every country is as welcoming. While France and the UK have pledged to take more people, countries like Denmark and Hungary are actively trying to avoid it. Hungary has set up barbed wire fences and Denmark is tightening restrictions and reducing social benefits to deter refugees. With over 366,000 refugees so far, European countries need to work together to find a solution.

ReplyDeleteI agree that more countries should be stepping up and welcoming these refugees. It can not be the burden of only a few countries to take in these people, so it is important that the leaders of places, such as Denmark, realize that these are people who desperately need help and they should be willing to help them.
