Germany adds Border Control-5th Molly Mitchell

Summary
The recent influx of refugees and migrants from Syria and Iraq has been staggering to say the least, and is quickly becoming a topic of interest for all of Europe. Particularly in Germany, where, after discovering a truck full of migrants near the German border, it has been decided that the border between Germany and Austria must be more strongly controlled. Thomas de Maiziere, the German Interior Minister, hopes that these restrictions will allow immigration to become "orderly" again. The borders will open again whenever this ordeal "dies down", until then all those refugees not able to now legally enter the German border will have to wait.

Analysis
Border control is a very controversial topic, especially here, in the USA where almost every other political conversation involves our border with Mexico. But this article is not about Mexico or the Americas at all, it is about Europe. I think I have a lot to say about this topic on both sides of the spectrum, because in reality there are two sides to every decision, and infinite results of each decision.  Germany can't become a refugee country, flooded with non-German speaking people and a dangerously high percentage of those homeless or in the lower class. It could ruin the German economy and its stance as a well developed country. At the same time, however, those refugees have a reason for leaving their homeland and entering a foreign country where they might not be able to have access to food or shelter. In this case that reason is that Syria and Iraq are both war-torn countries, not fit for people to live in. So what to do? Well Germany's response to create not a closed off border, but a more regulated one is probably the best idea they can act on in this situation. Overall, I wish all those refugees the best of luck.

  1. I think that what Germany is doing is a good idea because, although they must help their new residents they must also make sure they are secure. I feel as America should do the same, and not be so hateful towards their neighboring country.

  2. I don't know what these refugees have been through, but it cannot be good considering they're leaving their country. It's not fair when some have tried crossing the border illegally, and now German has stopped the flow of all refugees. The people who were entering the country the legal way now have to wait.

  3. I think that Germany closing it's borders is unethical. I understand the practicalities, but these refugees have no home. Everything they know is gone; they have no one to fall back on. Whether in Germany or not, many will end up homeless. I think that Europe needs to work together as a union comprised of multiple countries to determine a safe method of 1)keeping families together and 2)distributing (for lack of better word) /transporting people.
