Thousands upon thousands of refugees fleeing horrid conditions in Syria and other areas are pouring into Europe, most bound for Germany. Hundreds of trains carrying these migrants are delivering them from Hungary and Austria and even Italy. But these migrants are greeted warmly by the Germans, being given food, water, sweets, and toys for the kids. The exhausted, traumatized refugees are beginning to hope once more that they will be safe.
This whole situation is horrible, but it is amazing that Germany is so willing to help them. Germany, unlike other countries in Europe, has put no cap to how many migrants they will take in. While this is on a much more horrible scale, it is somewhat reminiscent of the huge influx of people in the 17th century fleeing oppressive governments in Europe to escape to the New World in hopes of a new life.

ReplyDeleteI think it's great that so many countries are welcoming Syrian refugees with open arms! The U.S on the contrary has been discussing how to keep these refugees out, arguing that we can't chance letting terrorists into our country. The Vatican has even taken in two families and we have completely turned our backs to these people in need. It's a shame.
I agree, it's great that Germany is helping the refugees because it gives them a chance for a new and happier life.
