Delta State Shooting: Police seek Suspect after History Teacher Killed by Caroline North period 9

Shannon Lamb is now a suspect for the murder of Ethan Schmidt, a college history teacher at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi.   Several years ago, the two used to be good friends.  However, Schmidt was found dead in his office Monday after being shot in the head, and police are now actively searching for Lamb, who is also a wanted suspect for another murder that occurred in Gautier, Mississippi, 300 miles away from the university.  The entire school has been placed under lockdown.  The safety of their students is the first priority, and they have been confined to their residence halls.  Thorough searches have occurred all throughout the college campus yet there is still no sign of Lamb.  Police and officials are becoming more confident that the suspect has left the university campus, and the students will be safe.

This topic is important and can relate to US History because as we move towards the future, gun control and safety should and will become a higher priority.  The original right to bear arms is evolving and we shouldn’t let just anyone have possession of dangerous, life-threatening weapons.  In addition, as we move forward, college is becoming increasingly important and necessary for everyone in order to have a successful career, and as it becomes more and more important for people attend, the safety of students needs to be a top priority.  I think these are all very important.
