Florida Boy Suffers Brain Damage After Fumigation
Source: Daily News: Tobias Salinger
Recently a 10 year old boy in Florida (Peyton) was taken ill and then hospitalized with brain damage after his house was fumigated for termites by the company Terminix. They were told they could come back home two days after they're house was fumigated. Peyton's little sister and parents also fell ill but have recovered since then. Peyton is now unable to conrol his limbs, unable to feed himself and his speech is very compromised. And an MRI suggests that he has brain damage. He has regained some of his personality, but seems like his recovery will take some time. Recovery also could mean he gains 10 - 90% of what he used to have. There is currently a criminal investigation on Terminix and a stop-work order has been issued on them so that it will not happen again. The family is deciding whether they'll file a lawsuit. A GoFundMe page was made for the family, and as of early Saturday $44,000 has been donated towards Peytons care and family travel expenses.
This article was written by Tobias Salinger from Daily News. In the article you can tell that his tone is pretty neutral. He does not have much emotion in his writing. This article was written a few weeks after Peyton fell ill. Not all of the information is known yet, but there is a good understanding of what happened and what is to come. I had only heard of this situation once a few days ago from a different article. It said some of the same things but it was not very informational. I did know that he fell ill to fumigation but it did not say anything about his lack of abilities and law suits. This article was written for anyone who is interested. It was written to give people a good understanding of the situation. I believe it has a positive influence on the readers, it shows them the harms of using these toxic chemicals. The article was written for the sole purpose of giving the public a better understanding. To show all of the affects of the fumigation, and portray whats to come for the family and a possible lawsuit. This article is important for the full understanding of what has happened for this boy in Florida who has suffered greatly because of a routine fumigation. It is one of of the only articles i found on this topic that had this much information. Its important for people to know what has happened to Peyton, and to see that fumigation's and other routine pesticides today can cause ourselves a lot of harm. I feel really bad for this poor unsuspecting family and this 10 year old boy who has lost most of his ability to function. We really need to look into the kinds of fumes we put inside our houses. It should not take this accident for us to finally look into the harmful fumes used today.
