Carlos Joglar- US to Accept 85,000 Refugees

An article on yahoo.com announced that the U.S. will accept 85,00 refugees this year. Up from last year's 70,000, most of these refugees are expected to be Syrian or from impoverished African nations.

The article also mentioned that one reporter asked why more couldn't be taken, and they said it was because they weren't given enough money from Congress. In case anyone has forgotten the past 100 years of our existence, the U.S. is practically built on immigration. That's why we have so many diverse cultures. We are a large, nation, we have space. I find it interesting that we go to such lengths and spend all the money we can to make foreign affairs our business and involve ourselves in the problems of other countries, yet when we have the chance to open ourselves up as a sanctuary for those who are being bombed, shot, and starved, we suddenly have a monetary limit. Our institutionalized racism needs to change and I definitely do not see that happening if Donald Trump manages to get into office.

  1. I think that it is a moral obligation as well as an economic obligation of America to welcome refugees. As you said, this country is based on refugees. They deserve a chance to succeed, and that wouldn't happen in their country. Also, much of our economy is supported by immagrants and refugees, so America will on be better.
