California Fires by Kennedy Park 4th period

With a 4 year drought and winds that were going on 30 miles per hour, something bad was bound to happen. In Middletown California in only 12 hours over 62 miles of land was charred "prompting thousands to flee their homes." More than 100 homes have been destroyed and has left 5,000 without power. This all started Saturday night about 100 miles north of San Francisco. No deaths have been reported yet and the only injuries include 4 firefighters who are in stable conditions with second degree burns. The governor of California has issued a state of emergency in Lake and Napa.

I can't believe that things like this are still happening. Haven't we learned that natural disasters need to be well prepared for? Just recently marked the 10 year anniversary for Hurricane Katrina. 250,000  people die every year globally due to natural disasters. In the book The Wordy Shipmates by Sarah Vowell, Winthrop writes "The next entry... states that a Mr. Freeman's house burnt down... Winthrop sees a daytime blaze as a sign that things are looking up." Winthrop may see this fire as a sign of good fortune but I certainly don't. This fire is due strictly to people not taking proper precautions and now because of it, thousands have lost their homes.
