Body of U.S. Tourist in Spain Is Found, and Arrest Is Made By Raphael Minder (Zoe Roberts, 3rd Period)

Summary:
Spanish official managed to identify the body of Denise Thiem, age 42, from Arizona. Thiem's body was found in a barn in Northern Spain. Thiem went missing around five months ago while walking the Camino de Santiago. Police detained the owner of the property near Astorga. Thirty nine year old Miguel Ángel Muñoz is the main suspect for the murder of Thiem, Munoz was arrested Friday in a bar around 120 miles from his property. Officials say Thiem's death could be linked to the threats and harassment reports along the Camino de Santiago. Though, orginially when Thiem went missing officials had called it an isolated case, even though the Camino is a booming tourist route of Spain. The Camino has gained increasing fame over the years after being featured in several popular books and movies.

Analysis:
It is alway freaky to hear about mysterious disappearances, especially when it takes as long as five months to even get some what of a lead. I honestly think the police acted far too slowly in this case. It was silly to first rule Thiem's disappearance as an isolated incident when the Camino de Santiago is a popular tourist route, and even sillier when there had been reports of threats and harassment. They were quick enough to find a suspect and take him into custody, but the entire investigation (starting from months back) seems to have gone a little too slow. Again, the question always comes about: Had authorities acted faster in regard to her disappearance would Thiem still be alive?
