Blast in explosives building kills dozens// Olivia Gillis

On Saturday, September 12, a building that housed mining explosives blew up in Central India. This blast resulted in at least 89 people killed and about 100 people severely injured. The building in Madhya Pradesh's Jhabua district was half commercial and half residential, meaning many homes were destroyed. A tenant was storing licensed mining explosives and a fire may have triggered the blast but, the exact cause is still unknown. The people inside the building were not the only ones harmed. Several customers at an adjacent restaurant were severely injured and some were killed. Houses were also affected, as the blast was felt across the road.
This is not the first time that an event like this has happened, and it probably isn't the last. Hundreds of people are killed almost monthly because of blasts in buildings storing explosives. A similar event occurred last month in China when explosions full of hazardous chemicals ripped through warehouses and shot fireballs across the sky, shaking buildings more than 2 miles away. I think that if the explosives were stored in a more appropriate location, away from homes, restaurants, shops, etc.,  the harmful effects of these blasts could be lessened. Until something is done to stop these blasts, they will keep occurring all over the world and harming anyone/anything in their paths.
