Ukrainian military and Russia have agreed to a cease fire, which has been holding so far, although both sides have skepticism of the other sides commitment to the deal. U.S. president Barack Obama stated at a recent NATO summit in Wales his skepticism of the Russians commitment to the cease fire, and along with the EU has continued with sanctions on Russia to maintain pressure and keep cease fire holding. NATO allies countries will also be supplying support to Ukraine, and NATO will protect other eastern European countries that had been formerly part of the Soviet Union like Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia.
The issue between Russia and Ukraine has been increasingly prominent, and hopefully this cease fire will lead to something promising. I think the U.S is dealing with this in a very cautious subtle way, allying their actions with other NATO countries, the U.S is being careful not to seem too imposing on Russia, this way its careful not to suggest aggressive action that could lead to thoughts of a new revival of the Cold War.
