Man Breaks Into the White House -Hadassah Lai

The U.S. Secret Service boosted its surveillance system after a man armed with a knife jumped the White House fence and ran into the White House. On Friday, Omar Gonzalez, hopped the north fence and sprinted into the north portico armed with a knife. Luckily, he was caught just as he stepped foot into the White House. When the authorities searched his car, they found more than 800 rounds of ammunition, a machete, and a hatchet. This is not the first time that he has been caught by the police. The first time he was caught, he was arrested walking around the White House carrying a shotgun and a sniper rifle. In August, he was stopped by the security while carrying a hatchet and allowed the police to search his car where they found camping gear and two dogs. They also found a map with the White House circled in red. Gonzalez is an Iraq War veteran who suffers from severe post traumatic stress disorder.

I think that the PTSD might be the reason he has been acting this way. In a way, I feel sorry for him as he probably had to go through many horrible things while in Iraq. It is a very scary thing, no matter how big your house is, when a person who is armed breaks into your house that might have the intention of hurting you and your family. I hope that this man finds peace, and that this sort of thing will never happen again.

  1. I actually found this whole story kind of funny, it might make me a bad person but I think it is funny how all the security in the White House couldn't keep a single man (who was clearly not right in the head) out of the most "secure building in the world"

  4. It is crazy that he was allowed to do that. This is a big risk for the security of our president. I wonder what he planned to do when he ot inside or is he trying to send a message to us?
