Living in the Colored World: Daizha Lankford

In the Year 2014 you would think everyone is considered the same, race wise that is, and we all live in perfect harmony. As we all know, that is far from true. So when John Blake, wrote the article about the white minority, I was intrigued and taken aback! The article talks about the experience of 2 people who lived in all black communities, went to all black schools, and how racism should still be argued over. Famous NBA star Bill Bradley says it best "I better understand distrust and suspicion. I understand the meaning of certain looks and certain codes. I understand what it is to be in racial situations for which you have no frame of reference. I understand the tension of always being on guard, of never totally relaxing ..." In APUSH we talk about colonies and freedom. How being an outsider in a community is solely based on what color the skin is, if someone is different, or if they don't fit in. It is not necessarily the person, but the community. Racism is still evident from all ends of the spectrum, Sly comments, about Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, or  Asians, its all stereotypical. It's about what world you put yourself in. One white person, in a room full of black people and you are no longer in the "white mans world" As much as you like to think that we all live in one world, we are unintentionally living in separate worlds, simply based on the color of our skin.

  1. Yeah, and depending on which community you live in, perspectives can be changed.

  2. its interesting to see how minorities can change in relation to the environment and how no matter which race is in the minority in some instances others will make something out of it.

  4. This is very interesting and I completely agree with you, nothing should come between people based on a their physical appearance.

  6. This is really interesting that this topic is STILL an argument today. I really hope America gets the chance to live as a land of true unity, but we won't get there until everyone actually takes the first step in trying. You can't get on the ladder of success until you take the first step and I think it's up to our generation and the next to really make a change and try to change the ways of this country for the better.

  7. I think its interesting that she gets praise and an article written on her experience yet no one talks about how children of color are forced to assimilate.
