Recently, the Ku Klux Klan have been leaving recruitment fliers outside of peoples homes in the night accompanied by candies and an address. Most recently in New York, Carlos Londono, a dark-skinned Colombian man, woke up to find one of the unnerving invites on his drive way. Londono says he is a "a painter and construction worker who has lived in Hampton Bays on Long Island for 30 years." Over a course of six months, similar letters have been scattered across the country in a wide KKK recruitment after taking many blows and the society slowly dyeing out. Each flier comes dresses with a KKK headquarters office in a near by state, a list of benefits, a membership application, and small sweets. The numbers of the Klan have shriveled in the past decade to what is estimated to be around 8,000 to 5,000 members who are split into smaller associations and practices.
What seems absurd is that the infamous Ku Klux Klan is publically recruiting members or various races and sexes to join their extreme organization. It doesn't feel right that they are being so reckless about dropping these fliers in the night where a passing citizen or and on duty cop may stop them of suspicious behavior. There is also the chance that one of these fliers could be picked up at random, not by its intended receiver but by an everyday pedestrian. The fact that the Klan is also hunting out people of mixed and different races comes off as odd as well. Could it be a was that they are spreading their hate even further past Africa Americans and various religions? It bothers me personally to know that these members are not able to be found out or detected if they were just walking down the streets. Are they out to cause more trouble? I definitely want to see if this develops into a more serious situation

The fact that the "KKK" is still an active group today is terrifying. You would think that people would come to their senses and live in peace, but I guess not.
ReplyDeleteThis is horrible. In the world today, one would hope this would not allow for a resurgence of such an awful group of human beings.
ReplyDeleteI find it horrendous that no one has yet charged them with a hate crime and put them in jail. What they are doing is not right, but there might be a reason behind the madness. What if they are leaving out the fliers to intimidate other people, like that certain Colombian? If i found a flier saying that the KKK was recruiting people around my area, I would certainly be scared enough to move out of that place. I am no way saying that this is right, I just think that this could be a potential view point of the KKK.
ReplyDeleteIt's really just sad to me that racism is still even existent to this degree in the United States. Personal opinion, even one as crude as this, still doesn't give anyone a right to inflict their opinion negatively on others.

ReplyDeleteAmerica already has a shady history with discrimination. We are a nation that is supposed to change for the better. Treating innocent people that only look different like this is just terrible.
agree. It's a little frightening to know that those people can be anyone and we wouldn't know it. I just hope this thing doesn't get too big and start to cause harm to more people. It hurts to know that in a country where "freedom" is supposed to basically be our motto, people are still being harmed by such hateful and violent people.
