KKK Recruitment by: Heather McKay

It seems that there has been an increase in KKK recruitment in dozens of U.S cities within the past six months. People are finding a flier tucked into a plastic bag along with a membership application, the address to the KKK national office in North Carolina, a list of beliefs and three Jolly Ranchers.
Although the Klan has experienced and been weakened by "internal conflicts, court cases, and seemingly endless series of splits and government infiltration" they seem to still be making an effort to recruit new members and strengthen its numbers.
Honestly, this sort of makes me sick that after all this country has endured, we still have people out there that support or are a part of the KKK. I really hope that this recruitment project is a failure and they not not recruit any new members, because that is the last thing America needs. Although their main discrimination was/is towards African Americans, they discriminate against Jews, gays, lesbians, immigrants, and Catholics. They should no longer exist or have any power in our country and i think that instead of simply being shocked and disgusted by this recruitment effort, we should do something to stop them.

  1. It is so awful that this is still an issue. It is a group of people trying to suppress those who aren't like them and honestly, its just pathetic.

  2. It's simultaneously disgusting and laughable (in the sense that these individuals still haven't moved on from their prejudices or feel so much hate that they feel this is their only outlet) that this is still an issue in the present.

  4. It concerns me that this is still an issue today. But it sort of shines light at the fact that on the surface we believe racism is no longer a common problem. Meanwhile, hate groups like this one are still around and are actually acting upon their opinions by recruiting.

  5. Its shocking how a hate organization like the KKK honestly believes in somewhat of a "comeback." The sheer concept is so absurd, it's laughable. It amazes me how members of the Klan seemed to completely disregard the drastic changes in time and social status. (Brett Akop P.5)

  6. It's so surreal that this is still an ongoing conflict in America. It's crazy to think that this is happening just states away from me.

  7. Personally, I find it appalling that after chunks of history of KKK related violence, we are still not learning right from wrong.
