"From NY to Texas, KKK recruits with candies and fliers" Brett Akop Period 5

The Ku Klux Klan was a predominantly popular association in the times of racism; however, no one suspected a sudden return of the extremely racist and outdated group. In recent months, the Klan has attempted to make somewhat of a return in suburban neighborhoods throughout America. The extremist group is sending applications to random homes at night accompanied with candies and an address; one specific case is Carlos Enrique Londoño of a suburban New York home. "Carlos Enrique Londoño laughs at the Ku Klux Klan recruitment flier recently left on the driveway of his suburban New York home. It's unlikely the group would accept him. "I'm Colombian and dark-skinned," said Londoño, a painter and construction worker who has lived in Hampton Bays on Long Island for 30 years. The flier was tucked into a plastic bag along with a membership application, the address for the KKK national office in North Carolina, a list of beliefs and three Jolly Rancher candies." It's truly appalling how a group of this magnitude believes in a widespread return of racism and prejudice in these times. What really baffles me is the nonchalant attitude that this group has expressed; recklessly dropping of fliers without any regard to whose hands it falls into is absurd. The most shocking aspect of this "revolution" is the fact that men and women of all races and religion are somehow finding this flier on their front porch. You would think that a group with extreme prejudice towards every race besides a caucasian male would be more attentive as to who receives this form, but no, the Klan seems to aimlessly leave this package with nearly zero regard towards who receives it. I am very intrigued as to how this conflict plays out and I plan on keeping up to date with its progression. 1. It's a surprise to me that the government hasn't done anything to ban this hateful organization. How is it that the KKK can continue to be active through a loophole? Can't the government see that they're more than just a protest group? (Miguel Dones)

I feel like this is some kind of joke, with the KKK using candy. But this is a terrible thing to happen to the country. Besides, in the age we are now, we have come a long way from discrimination, and bringing it back up like this will make history repeat itself.
