Found Bracelet Brings 9/11 Families Together - Olivia Lambert 3rd Period

Ten days ago on the beach in Robert Moses State Park in New York, a metal bracelet inscribed with a fallen 9/11 firefighter's name was washed away on the shores. Marlene Quinn, who was visiting the beach for comfort after her brother's death who was also a firefighter, found the bracelet at her feet. The bracelet read "Michael J. Otten F.D.N.Y. Ladder 35 9/11/01."

Quinn recognized the name and remembered that the firefighter used to live in her town before his death. She did some research and discovered the Otten family lived less than a mile away in East Islip and she sent it in the mail. When Marion, Otten's widow received it, she hadn't known it was missing. Her son apparently wore it on the beach nearly a decade ago and lost it. Now he keeps the treasure on his dresser in rememberence of his father.

As stated in the article, God works in mysterious ways. The bracelet was not only a coincidence for Marlene, but it's ironic how this happened a few weeks before 9/11 in 2014. 9/11 was such a terrible day consisting of deaths and terrorism and I'm so happy for the family that now has a piece from their loved one to cherish. I have heard many touching stories and seen many documentaries of 9/11 but this might be one of the most ironic and dramatic ones I have read.

  1. I think that is so amazing that one bracelet can bring people together. It is a good reminder to people about how lucky they are to have so many loved ones still with them and also a good memorial for 9/11, a tragic day is our history.
