Documents: Captive Ind. woman beaten, forced into sex Brett Akop P.5

An Indiana couple who allegedly kidnapped a woman in July held the victimized woman captive for two months, frequently locking her in a small, confined wooden cage. The couple was charged Monday with rape, criminal confinement, kidnapping and other felony charges. "An Indiana woman who went missing in July was caged, tied up and endured repeated sexual assaults and beatings in the mobile home of two acquaintances before another man visiting the couple rescued her Saturday, according to charging documents filed Monday in Posey Circuit Court." It's a truly terrifying idea that any individual could endure the horrid acts of such a deranged couple. "Prosecutors Monday charged Ricky R. House Jr., 37, and Kendra Tooley, 44, with more than 10 criminal counts each in the case involving the Evansville, Ind., woman who went missing July 9." What kind of motives does a couple of this mental state have against this innocent woman? "The woman was rescued after Tooley's ex-husband, Ronald Higgs, visited the mobile home last week and learned the 30-year-old woman was being held against her will. The 61-year-old Higgs said he was dumbfounded when Tooley told him, "I've got a girl back here in a cage." By no means is this incident a matter that should be taken lightly; however, when committing a sever crime, it only seems logical to keep the incident to YOURSELF. It baffles me how Tooley simply told Ronald Higgs of the strange noises in the background. What kind of criminal gives away his highly consequential actions to any man who begs the questions "what is that?" With all do respect towards the victim of this horrific act, it appears as though our worst threats are barely capable of keeping their prosecutable crimes to themselves. 1. I kind of agree with your viewpoint. Not to perpetuate stereotypes but the man was probably mentally insane.

  2. The couple were obviously mentally insane. There have been quite a number of crimes committed by mentally insane people and I believe there should be something done about that.

  3. I read up on this case and it is extremely terrifying. The reason why they kept her locked up and raped her repeatedly was to impregnate her because Tooley was no longer capable of conceiving a child. I agree with the above comments. There is no way they are not considered mentally insane. -Azra

  6. This is just such an awful and strange event.. I can't even conceive why someone would be motivated to lock someone up in a cage and rape and abuse them, nor the fact that after four months, the couple were so willing to let up on their secret.. Definitely some sort of mental instability there..- Sophia Davison
