ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Gone Wrong- Azra Zuniga

A mother came across an odd video on her son's phone and once she pressed the play button, she watched her son become covered in sludgy brown water (the contents actually being feces, urine, and spit.) while people around him laugh hysterically. The teenager, left anonymous, suffers from autism and recently brought to his parent's attention, severe bullying. At least 3 different high schoolers are believed to be involved in the incident and a large amount of reward money is being offered in return for correct identification of the suspects.

The ALS ice bucket challenge has a great purpose; raise money and awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis disease. But, along with thousands of gallons of water being wasted in times of drought and strife, comes along a particularly unfortunate event. Suffering from a mental illness or not, no one deserves to be covered in human fecal matter for the sole purpose of entertainment. Celebrities are giving the incident coverage and attention, which is a great step towards finding the culprits responsible for this disgusting act. I hope that these suspects are caught and face charges for assault to the federal extent of the law because what they did is insensitive and extremely inhumane.

  1. I completely agree with you in every way. I think it's horrible that these parents had to witness what happened through a video left on her son's phone. I find the kids responsible for this sick, not only the kids that actually covered the kid in the sludgy brown water, but the kids that were around to watched and laughed. These kids not coming forward, to me, shows that they probably don't see that what they did was wrong and was just a joke or can just live with what they did. I hope these kids are found and charged for taking advantage of someone that didn't really know what was going on and for taking something that's supposed to be a great cause and turning it into a sick joke.

  2. Every aspect of this "joke" is completely immoral and sickening. Taking a pure and beneficial cause for charity and turning it into a sick prank must have consequences. I truly hope that these kids are found and prosecuted; it's appalling what this world has come to.

  3. I can't believe that people would do this. It's horrifying that they would do that to the kid… I can't even begin to understand the motive for doing that to someone. Not only did they poured the urine, etc. on him, but they also ruined a charity challenge. I agree with Destiny and Brett, they should most definitely be punished.

  4. Wow, this is heartbreaking. ALS is a real disease that needs to be made known and taken seriously. What occurred sounds obviously awful, but I think some more about the story needs to be investigated before deciding what needs to be done.

  5. I also read about this and found it extremely disheartening. But in more ways than one. Yes, the act of turning such a good cause into something like this is disgusting. But it's also sad that celebrities are going out of their way to offer rewards for anyone who comes forward. The culprits and anyone who knows them should feel completely ashamed and should want to step forward. The fact that money has to be involved shows moral decay and greed.

  6. I did my current event on this as well and couldn't believe how disrespectful and disturbing the prank was. It's so wrong to mess with kids in general, and especially ones with disabilities. The ALS challenge should be fun, not used as a form of bullying...

  7. The ALS challenge is supposed to be a fun and helpful thing, not a prank or joke. This is definitely the wrong way to portray this challenge.
