Regions in In India and Pakistan have suffered Landslides and flash floods after five days of non-stop storms. In total, the storms have killed nearly 300 people and rendering many other homeless. The storms have all but wiped out multiple residential areas destroying more than 4,000 homes and washing away entire villages. The Kashmir, India region has reported the deaths of nearly 120 people and have referred to these floods as the worst anyone has seen in more than five decades. In Pakistan, the deaths of 160 people have caused the floods to escalate to a state of national emergency.
The floods also caused a bus in Kashmir carrying nearly 50 people to be swept away and into a gorge on September 4th. Dozens were estimated dead during and the remaining people from the bus are still being searched for.
Today the rain has finally stopped and rescue workers now stand a chance at retrieving the tens of thousands still stuck in their homes. The rains had caused roaring flood waters that made it nearly impossible to reach those stranded. However, even though the rain has stopped officials say that water that has overflowed from the Jhelum river is continuing to make rescue efforts difficult. Civilian official Rohit Kansal stated that "The situation is extremely grim. We are not able to reach many people because the water is moving so fast."

It has been an awful monsoon season for those in Asia and some parts of the Middle East. There has been thousands effected from multiple countries in floods and landslides.
ReplyDeleteThis is terrible. I hate natural disasters because there's not much that we can do to stop them. I pray for the families that lost there loved ones due to this monsoon.
ReplyDeleteRemember these are US History Current Events. Is the US involved in any aid to these countries? Should we? How can you relate it to our history? Are there any historical floods of the past that you can connect this to?
