Adrian Peterson, Best Running Backs to Child Abuser? By Destiny Ramirez 4th Period

Minnesota Viking's star player, Adrian Peterson was arrested and kept from Sunday's game for allegedly hitting his 4-year-old son with a switch. Peterson claims that he is "not a perfect parent, but I am, without a doubt, not a child abuser." Peterson seems and claims to be very sorry and regretful for his actions toward his son. He stated that he was discipling his child the way his parents did when he was younger. He also stated that he feels he is the successful and respectful man he is today because of it. After charges and arrest, Peterson is in counseling learning other strategies to discipline his children.

This article was written by Eliot C. McLaughlin and Steve Almays for CNN News. Obviously, every parent is entitled to discipline their own child, in their own way, to a certain extent. I think that Peterson definitely crossed the line here. I think he acted before thinking and put his own son at risk as a consequence. I mean honestly, what could have a 4-year-old boy have down to make you pick up a switch and allegedly beat him with it?

  2. It is awful that people can do such a thing. There are certain who discipline there kids like this but not at the level he did it. He should be punished.

  3. Well I also agree with the other people with saying that this is awful, i think that its a good thing for parents to discipline their children but maybe not go as far as Adrian Peterson did

  4. This is really awful! Hopefully this will call attention to the fact that physical abuse is not the most effective form of discipline.

  5. I think physical disipline has always been a grey area in today society. Whether or not its to harsh on a child ,or as seen as a necessary form of punishment in the house hold.

  6. Physical discipline has always been somewhat of a controversial topic, I personally find it to be ineffective but others would beg to differ. Adrian Peterson crossed the line with his aggressive and unnecessary acts of cruelty towards the child.

  7. How can you relate this to APUSH? Can you relate this story to the brutal conditions of Native American and African American slaves in the past?
