A record number of voters participated in the midterm elections this year. A whopping 118 million people, or 50.1% of eligible voters were estimated to have taken part by Professor Michael McDonald of University of Florida. 35 more million people voted this year than in 2014.
The voter turnout this year has been one of the largest in American history. In 1970, 47% of voters turned out and in 1996, it was 49%. The late 60's were, like today, a time of social reform and movement, which is the cause of the large turnout.
Hopefully in the future we will continue to see more eligible voters exercise their rights as American citizens and take part in fulfilling the dream of a nation governed by the people and for the people.

Analysis
This makes me wonder on what goes through peoples minds to think doing this is okay. If this is where teenagers are headed towards i really want no part in it because its just sad that maybe one day this could be the norm. We wonder why older generations criticize us and judge us and it is because of instances like these that stick out to people and think this what we are about.Valery Tinajero- Teacher Looses her Job For Cutting Off Students Hair

Summary: A teacher at a California University took things a little far when she decided to lunge herself at students and start singing the national anthem while trying to cut off students hair. Luckily she was arrested and might face up to 3 and a half years in Jail for this incident.
Analysis: What the Teacher did was extremely out of line and it shows not only students but teachers can be crazy as well. This however hasn't been the first time teachers take it a little too far with students. There have been many cases where teachers have hit students because they angered or annoyed them.
Man gives mom with sick child a first class seat - maria golici
This story has gone viral quite quickly and when you read it there is no way you cant smile. Kelsey Zwick was on a flight to Orlando to Philadelphia with Lucy, her sick daughter. They were going to Children's Hospital for her treatment. When she got settled in her seats a flight attendant came and asked her about changing seats. At first, Zwick was confused and the flight attendant explained that a man in first class was giving up his seat to her. She was overtaken by emotions that when walking up to the seat she was crying. When she got to the seat she could hardly say thank you to the shock of joy she was going through. Even though she had a smile on her face she was still struggling and she was happy that someone cared and acknowledged that. She later went online trying to get the post to go around to properly get to thank the man for giving up his seat. She was so inspired by the kindness of this mans heart and said that she couldn't wait to tell her daughter about this story!

Supreme Court Ducks Effort To Defund Planned Parenthood - Miranda Farrar
Recently, the Supreme Court has refused to address a Republican-led case that has the goal to defund Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood. This is not about federal money funding abortion-related services, as that is not allowed by federal law. These states are trying to defund Medicaid funding for the sole reason that Planned Parenthood offers these services amongst many others, including cancer screenings, birth control, and ultrasounds. The Supreme Court's decision suggests that with the confirmation of Kavanaugh and two new justices, the court wants to lay low for a while. The decision also goes back to an edited viral video that put Planned Parenthood in a bad light, and the organization sued states who removed funding for them from Medicaid. Of course, everyone has different opinions on the court's decision, but the president of Planned Parenthood expressed a positive reaction to the decision.
Abortion is a very controversial subject, and I understand that some people don't agree with it. However, it seems unnecessary that states are trying to get rid of healthcare that provides that one particular service among many. Planned Parenthood is known for abortions, but it's other services are overlooked. Moreover, they are services for low-income women. This is rare, seeing as healthcare is widely known for being expensive. As for the Supreme Court's decision, it seems to be working pretty well. The decision lies in the hands of lower courts, and the Supreme Court will avoid excess attention.

Sydney Ewing- Is it Too Late for President Macron?
President Macron of France stated that he has heard the voices of those in economic hardship and is going to take immediate action to relieve their suffering. He has announced tax cuts and minimum wage increases. These actions are a result of the Yellow Vests movement which was characterized by rampages through Paris and other French cities in a revolt against a fuel tax increase and a rebuke of Macron's failure to focus on the French middle class.
In France, some people praise Macron for his decisions, but many critics say that Macron's suggested changes do not speak to the needs of the middle class and fall short of the demands made by the Yellow Vest movement. It is evident that Macron's actions are in response to the rampages in an effort to regain support and push through legislation. His original moves in office have been characterized by “favoring the rich” by cutting taxes of the wealthy to stimulate investment. Macron was also known to only consult himself and a small circle around him while also dismissing the complaints of French citizens. I agree with the many allusions that people have made to the French Revolution in the Yellow Vests movement. It is interesting how despite the fact French people have historically revolutionized against the wealthy, Macron insisted on holding political office and running his party with decisions coming from the top down (it's pretty evident that the French people don't really like when people in power do that. And similarly Americans don't either… the difference being that Americans have historically conducted heavy protests and negotiations before attack in an attempt to remain peaceful and neutral, and the French revolt and behead their oppressors). Anywho, Macron has no motivation to resign, contrary to the suggestions of many critics, and he is continuing to try to eradicate all of the hate for him in France. So far he has been somewhat successful, but he still has a long way to go… hopefully he won't lose his head trying.

Sophie Knox- Stephen Hillenberg dies
Summary: The creator of Spongebob, Stephen Hillenberg , died at age 57 from ALS on November 26, 2018. Hole berg was diagnosed with ALS a year ago in March, and unfortunately it is a very rare disease. It’s a nervous system disease that weakens mussels and there is treatment, but it can’t cure the disease. He was cremated and his ashes were rightfully scattered at seas. He graduated from Humboldt State University and later became a marine biology teacher. His work and love for the sea later inspired him to create Spongebob. Hillenberg decided to go to animation school in California and got his Master of Fine Arts. In the same year he graduated, he won an award for Best Animated Concept for his short film “wormholes”. Then he would join Nickelodeon and direct/produce “Rocko’s Modern Life.” After that show ended he began making the world famous show “Spongebob”.
Analysis: I used three different articles because not one article didn’t have much information. The audience for all these articles are spongebob fans. The purpose of these articles are to spread the message of his death, while also giving background information on him and how he created Spongebob. One of the articles is personal and explains why this was significant to the writer. Spongebob is one of the most popular T.V shows (even my Dad watches it), and most children have grown up watching it. I can relate this event to when Stan Lee died or Walt Disney died.
