Recently, Governer Ralph Northam of Virginia, a Democrat, was to found to be in a racist photo featuring one male in blackface and the other in a KKK costume both with bears in their hands. After this controversy, more has hit Governor Northam, the issue if deciding whether he should resign or not. Many say that he should just resign to not cause further turmoil in the Democratic party and in his state Virginia, which already has an extremely racist past. Others are saying that we should focus on the good he has done, such as giving voting felons who have finished their sentence the right to vote. McAuliffe, for example, says that it is time to close that chapter in Northam’s life and move on.

Previously, I had known about this situation and I thought that Northam should resign from his office. I still think he should resign and even though he may have changed, it would be better to avoid controversy and he should be taking responsibility for his actions, or never even done what he did in the first place! We can relate this back to Cavanaugh in late 2018 and how he was accused of sexual harassment of a lady. At the end of the day, Northam will probably do the same as Cavanaugh and keep living his life in an office of power. This is something we need to fix because if no one punishes them for their actions, then people will keep doing the same disgusting, racist things.
