Lily Philips- Acts of Kindness in Freezing Chicago

Recently, a real estate agent in Chicago decided to help care for over 100 homeless people during the city’s period of cold weather. Candice Payne saw many people in the freezing cold who had no means  of shelter or warmth and felt she needed to help. She booked 30 rooms in an inn and asked others to help transport these people to the hotel. Neighbors volunteered to help drive them, and Ms. Payne soon received many donations to assist her in these acts of kindness. She provided the families with basic necessities such as shelter, food, water, and toiletries for as along as she could with over $10,000 in donations. She has gained much thanks from people like the Governor of Illinois who praised her for her good-doing. Candace wishes to find a way to make a permanent solution for this problem.
This article was written by Sandra E. Garcia and published in The New York Times on February 2, 2019. The audience of this article is the people of the United States with the purpose of informing and inspiring others about this kind gesture last week. The author was clear and straightforward, and I did not see any use of bias in her article, strictly facts. This event reminded me of Mother Teresa’s organization, Missionaries of Charity, where she dedicated her life to help others who were homeless, orphans, or dying from disease. There is so much hate in this world, so it is good to know that we still have people like Candice Payne just trying to make it a better place. Hopefully, we will start to see more acts like this one in our future.
