After the allegations of prospective Alabama senator Roy Moore having relations with a 14 year old girl when he was 30, the whole state has been shaken by the news. Moore has outright denied the claims, saying they are the worst slander he has ever faced from the liberal media even stating "The forces of evil will lie, cheat, steal -- even inflict physical harm -- if they believe it will silence and shut up Christian conservatives like you and me," The article then goes on to share opinions from supporters of Moore and their reasonings for staying behind him. They range from referencing 'innocent until proven guilty' and saying if it's true he obviously needs to drop out to saying even if the allegations are true they still stand behind him. Multiple people referenced "fake news." Some referred to their personal experiences with Moore as being a standup guy, all are firsthand account of why they stand with him in times like these.
Ok so now it's opinion time for me. I think that situations like these are very tricky. There is no real way to prove entirely allegations like this, all we have to go off of is the word of those involved. There is a stigma surrounding sexual assault allegations in this way, where people immediately assume the woman is lying, and that's why so many of these women stay silent. It's very important to listen and encourage people to speak up, because it's not an easy things to do. As for the people who say they would still support him even if it is true, literally what. A man tried to justify the relationship with quotes from the Bible, and that's extremely upsetting and disgusting. There is no excuse for behavior like that. I think that as a politician, just based off the quotes I've read, Moore is extreme. He's created this narrative of an Us and a Them which is part of the problem in why we have such a political divide in our country now. I applaud the woman who accused him, for not remaining silent, I hope some closure is reached in this situation and all the situations of this kind coming out recently.
I completely agree with you, it's infuriating that people would still stand beside him if this turns out to be true. You can't sexually assault someone, ESPECIALLY a child, and still be "a standup guy". It doesn't work like that.
