Iran and Iraq have been hit by a deadly earthquake that, so far, has killed up to 402 people. The epicenter was located on the border region between the two countries, and reached a depth of just over 14 miles, with aftershocks in Pakistan, Lebanon, Kuwait, and Turkey. Falling rock and collapsing buildings caused many people to be pinned under heavy concrete with limited air. Each country has initiated rescue squadrons and operations to try and recover lost families and citizens, but many situations are unstable, and without knowing exactly where people are, it is hard to go in right away without immense planning beforehand. Iran sits on a major fault line, so past earthquakes have occurred, but none have been this deadly. A major problem is that after the earthquakes, nothing is being changed in regards to how buildings are constructed.
I am hoping that this will come as a wake up call to these countries. It is our job as human beings to fix mistakes and improve as societies. Whether that is through technological improvements to ensure safety or equality issues that need to be addressed, change needs to always be present. It is very sad that this earthquake has ruined lives and ripped families apart, but it is important, now more than ever, to rally together and support these nations with supplies and help that is so desperately needed. Since the earthquake hit yesterday, effects are still prominent and people are still trapped, so even simple things such as praying for them, I'm sure, are greatly appreciated.

I agree that it is extremely important to work together in times of need. Helping others will in the end help the entire community.
ReplyDeleteI agree that we should pray for them in their time of need
ReplyDeleteThis is pretty scary. These families lives will forever be changed. I agree that even the littlest things can make the biggest impact.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. I recently read about how natural disasters can also affect mental health. (loss of hope, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, etc.) I feel like this is another aspect that we really need to pay attention to and help out with.
