12 Year Old Girl Saves Family From Fire - Taylor Townsend

In Elkridge, Maryland, a 12 year old girl was awaken by the smoke alarm after her father went to work. She went to the living room and saw that the couch was on fire. Her mother was in her room asleep with the baby and her younger sister and Alixon Lopez Martinez, a seventh grader at Thomas Viaduct Middle School, helped all of them escape out the back door of the house. She says her grandmother had already made it out of the house safely by the time she, her mom and younger siblings made it outside.

Alixon has been commended for her brave actions by many local firefighters. When interviewed, Alixon's statement was "Thank God that I was awakened by that alarm to save my family and I was scared because I was in shock when I saw the fire”. The investigators still haven't determined the cause of the fire. Alixon and her family's belongings have been destroyed and they are currently living with nearby relatives.
