Social media has been taking over so much of how people think. Opinions are shared which can persuade or false advertise many people and or situations. For example, after the mass shooting in Las Vegas, only hours after, thousands of tweets and Facebook posts were out on social media, sharing theories and spreading false "facts". Studies have been shown that the news that appears on your screens will keep you wanting more and that it will keep you watching. Everything travels faster too, when it is on social media, causing not only false news to be the thing that spreads fast. It has also been seen that people will pass on information without even reading it, but just do it because of "importance".

Social media plays a big role in spreading news, and this ties into APUSH because the news used to be spread through newspapers or actual talk. Ideas didn't spread as viral at such a fast rate, however it is similar because false advertising did happen very often. This is written for the common people too ready awareness to the fact that what we see and share is not always true.

  1. I agree with your views on social media. Although I think social media is good for spreading important and accurate news quickly, I think it is a major distraction for teens and even adults.

  2. Social media does have its benefit of getting important information out efficiently, and I'm very grateful to have a quick mode of communication, but it does sadly come with the consequence of not always speaking the truth, which is something that I value more.

  3. Social media has changed many people's lives by making people obsessed with checking it every minute. It also helps us by learning/spreading news in an instant, but it turns us in to somebody that we aren't.

  4. I agree that social media has definitely changed and is quickly speeding up. It's quite interesting how the news can use it for good or for bad.

  5. This is very true because more often than not, things are posted to create buzz and not to inform the public. We see this with many political issues and with celebrity news.

  6. I agree, like most things, social media has both positive and negative affects. It can aid in providing important information, however it can also aid in providing degrading and dismissive information.
