Northern California fires- Melanie Escalante

Summary: The Tubbs fire began October 8th and wasn’t expected to be contained until October 21st. At least 5,700 buildings have been destroyed. Many people didn’t have any sign the fire was coming and had little time to get to safety. Sadly, some didn’t make it to safety in time.

Synthesis: This is similar to the California wildfires in 2007 which led to many needing to evacuate. However, the destruction in Northern California is worse than that in 2007.

Analysis: Just looking at the pictures of the destruction is terrifying. I cant imagine living through something so horrendous. Events like this always make me realize how each person has a different story and you never know what they’re going through. Some people were with grandchildren, some were handicapped, and some alone. Then they lost their lives, lost their homes, or ended up in the hospital. Although we still haven’t provided enough help to Puerto Rico, maybe we can at least provide help for those suffering in California. I hope they can seek shelter for now and be a helping hand for one another. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/10/14/us/california-fire-building-damage.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage

  1. I can't believe that it's going to take so long to fully put out the fires. The drought in California is a serious problem and as you said, I hope we're able to provide some help fro the people who lost their homes.
