Current Events: Trump Says he Spoke to the President of the Virgin Islands
President Donald Trump gave a speech on Friday and claimed that he spoke to the president of the Virgin Islands, which is him, because the Virgin Islands are a U.S. territory. He was talking about going to all of the places who needed hurricane relief, and when he talked about going to Puerto Rico he said he met with the president of the Virgin Islands in Puerto Rico. He was actually referring to Kenneth Mapp, the governor of the U.S. Virgin islands.
This just shows how neglectful the United States is towards its territories. Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are totally devastated, and not very much relief is coming from the government, whereas if these storm had the same effect on the continental United States it would be a completely different story. At least in the past month lots of awareness to this situation has arose, so maybe some change is in our near future, or at least for when we get a new president because obviously Trump has no clue what he is doing.
