1st period

This past Sunday at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, a gunman opened fire for ten minutes into a crowd of 22,000 people. He was positioned on the 32 floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, and possessed 20 rifles and several hundreds of rounds of ammunition. As of now, 59 people have died, 527 were injured, either by gunshot wounds or trampled while trying to escape. The most confusing part of this event is the fact that the gunman was a 67 year old retired man from Mesquite, Nevada, lived a quiet life, and had no criminal history. His brother said "The fact that he had those kind of weapons is just — where the hell did he get automatic weapons?". The entire city was at a standstill, flights to the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas was redirected because some survivors fled there after the shooting and because of police activity. The police and paramedics also shut down highways and roads close to the scene after the massacre. The motive for this terrible tragedy is still unclear, however, the Islamic State Terrorist group has claimed responsibility. It is unlikely that this is true. In conclusion, this is one of the deadliest mass shootings in American History.

This article was written to inform the masses of this terrible tragedy and shed light on the specifics of this situation. This article has on bias, but it may help encourage the public to donate blood and money to the victims. In my opinion, this article further proves that more restrictions need to be placed on who can buy guns. How is it possible that a 67 year old can gain access to machine guns without any mental health test? More laws restricting who can buy guns need to be put into place.
