I'm sure many have already heard, but this weekend, there was a mass shooting in Las Vegas. Stephen Paddock was the shooter who shot at a crowd at a Jason Aldean concert. According to officials, Stephen was staying in a room on the 32nd floor, and had an arsenal of at least 23 guns. During the shooting, Paddock killed 59 people and injured another 527 people, resulting in the largest mass shooting in US history. One thing is still unclear: Why he did it.
The fact that this was the largest mass shooting in US history is just shocking. I mean, that is over a span of about 4 to 5 centuries. It's also a bit surprising to me that mass shootings are only now occurring. In history, there were usually only assassinations of one or two people, never 59 people. I hope to find out why they are becoming so popular.
I believe in the 2nd amendmant and that we as American citizens should have the right to bare arms. I feel though that it is unnecessary to have an AK-47 for "self defence" or 23 rifels like Stephen Paddock had. I feel that gun laws need to be stricter to prevent people like Stephen Paddock from obtaining guns and other weapons. Stricter gun laws in my opinion are a necessity to hopefully preventing future massacres like the ones that occured in Las vegas, Orlando and Sandy Hook Elementary.
ReplyDeleteI see your perspective and I agree, but I'm fairly sure that those types of guns are illegal. They should have only been available to militaries. Making stricter gun laws aren't going to stop people from smuggling the guns behind the scenes.
DeleteI think it's important for us to figure out why these mass shootings are happening. We obviously need to try and fix whatever is happening. We can't have shooters taking the lives of innocent people. I was so sad when I heard what happened this past weekend, and I hope we find a solution to this violence.
ReplyDeleteI think that the radical political scene in America today is what's causing these radical terrorist attacks and marches, such as that in Charlottesville.
