It infuriates me that Jones is aloud to bench his players for exercising there 1st amendment, nonetheless the Cowboy's is a private organization that can legally terminate employee's without cause. His course of action I find to be an unrealistic solution to getting players to "respect the flag". For example what if all of his players decide to kneel during the anthem, then he has no athletes to play during a game. Regarding this I feel it also reveals Jones's character, he possibly resided on this resolution to avoid offending his sponsors, this I find to be appalling. The fact that he cares more about obtaining money from sponsors than fighting for social justice is disgusting. Concluding on this I feel he shows little sympathy for patriotism, respect for our nations flag, social justice and humanity, prioritizing money before these things.

Madison Pollak\\Jerry Jones Says Any Cowboys Player Who 'Disrespects' the Flag Won't Play
Protesting social injustice NFL players have been kneeling during the national anthem, since the start of last season. President Trump said anyone who kneels during the national anthem should be fired. In response to the presidents comment over 100 NFL players knelt before week three's game. This included Dallas Cowboy owner Jerry Jones who knelt along with his athletes and eventually stood up as the American flag was displayed. Despite this course of action it appears that the Cowboy's owner has taken a strong stance against his players partaking in this form of protest. Jones proclaimed after the cowboy's loss to the Green Bay packers, that anyone who "disrespects the flag" won't be aloud to play. Jones added "we cannot in any way give the implications that we tolerate disrespecting the flag". Nonetheless on Sunday Damontre Moore and David Irving raised there fist during the anthems conclusion, this was the only form of protest displayed since week 3 and no cowboy player has knelt during the national anthem, yet. The issue and Jones decision regarding kneeling during the national anthem still continues to spark controversy.

It's absolutely terrible that Jerry Jones would say that. It's like he has no sympathy and only cares for the sponsors...
ReplyDeleteOne part of it all that is hard to understand and makes me angry is that he knelt the week before but when Trump called him out he decided to look all good and say what he did. Also most of the people who are kneeling are not protesting the flag and aren't "disrespecting it" they are just trying to protest police brutality that has been occurring.
ReplyDeleteI understand the anger here but there are two sides to this argument. Jerry Jones is an owner but he has a boss. The cowboy revenue is 100 percent sponsor based and as silly as it is to think that he would just switch on a dime like that doesn’t make it any less true. Without revenue the system would collapse and a lot of people would be out of a job and down a business partner. Those kinds of things are very hard to get back. I don’t believe what he did was the best solution but I do think it is important to see both sides of history on this one.
ReplyDeleteI think there comes a time when one must choose between head and heart. Did Jones do the smart thing for his own gain? Yeah. Does that make it any less infuriating? No.
ReplyDeleteThis does not surprise me, Jones is a huge Trump supporter.
