NFL Debate Continues

Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, has taken to the public to discuss the ongoing debate about the national anthem in the NFL. He has stated, "any player who disrespects the flag will not play". This has rekindled further controversy and debate over the subject. However, just two weeks ago Jones was kneeling alongside his players on the field. I am curious to know what prompted his change of heart. Jones also said, "I know this, we cannot ... in the NFL in any way give the implication that we tolerate disrespecting the flag". He is benching players who choose to do otherwise. Many players took to the sidelines during the anthem.  Jerry Jones has said he prioritizes respect for the flag over issues of team unity.  Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has also changed his perspective on the issue. Ross has taken the same view as Jones.

It's a shame that players are being compromised between exercising their American liberties and functioning in their jobs. This situation is very delicate, and it is important that respect and understanding goes both ways as we work through this. It's saddening to see these players exercising their rights, but their jobs are compromising their liberties. I'm curious to know why these coaches have changed their views on the subject and if any others will change as well.

  1. I think that you should stand for the national anthem. Not standing shows complete disrespect to your country. People are always saying we need to unite together but this is completely separating everyone from each other. So sad.

  2. It is awful that their jobs are now having a direct correlation to the first amendment acts they are supposed to be allowed to practice. I understand they need to show support for their country but I don't think they should be fired if they aren't feeling certain nationalism.
